NEW RELEASE: Dubarry Womens Open Keelboat Championship 2015

Published 15:29 on 12 May 2015

Entries Rolling In for Dubarry Women's Open Keelboat Championship 2015

The first few teams are now entered for the Dubarry Women's Open Keelboat Championship, which takes place on 30/31 May at Hamble River Sailing Club. First to enter was a yacht sailing under the Sailing Logic flag, the first school boat to have entered the regatta in its eight year history. Sailing Logic offers a chance for sailors of all levels to join an organised team on a fully equipped racing yacht, with a professional skipper and mate, and the school has an impressive track record in both the UK and Caribbean.

Sharon Hayward, marketing manager for Sailing Logic, comments, "We are really excited to compete in WOKC. It is a unique concept as the entire fleet is composed of women-only teams. So it is a great way for us to offer an exciting event to female sailors to compete on a level playing field and perhaps have a go at the more 'blokey' roles on the boat."

WOKC organiser and regular Sailing Logic first mate, Jen Smyth (pictured) says, "The WOKC organisers are delighted to have Sailing Logic on board this year and hope that this will open the flood gates for more sailing schools to enter teams. We're really excited about the 2015 regatta and are looking forward to seeing some new faces taking part."

The weekend of sailing will take place in IRC classes on the Saturday and Sunday with the all-female teams participating in up to six races in the Solent area. In addition to the racing, the format will include registration on Friday evening along with a racing and weather briefing, plus drinks and canapes. Saturday evening features the ever-popular Frocks & Flipflops party, including bubbly reception from 18:30 followed by a BBQ dinner and charity raffle in aid of Breast Cancer Care and Hamble Lifeboat.

Entry for the event and tickets for the Saturday evening party are both available from Hamble River Sailing Club at hambleriversc.org.uk or on 02380 452070. The weekend will conclude with the prize giving on Sunday afternoon at Hamble River Sailing Club with an excellent range of prizes from Dubarry of Ireland, who continue to support the regatta, plus the prestigious WOKC trophy.

For those who would like more information on the event please contact the organisers at wokc@hotmail.co.uk or visit our website.
