HRSC A8 Wednesday Evening Racing 28th June 2017

Race report, A series Race 8, June 28th

This was the final race of Series A, and also race one of the Hamble Combined Clubs regatta. We welcomed two boats from the RAF Club, Eos and Lady Penelope.

There'd been no wind all afternoon, but about 1700 the predicted light northerly set in, and we set out in dank, misty and drizzly weather. With a sluicing ebb tide and N/NE breeze, there was going to be a shortage of usable marks. At least the drizzle dried up after the start.

Kathy set courses going out as far as Clipper (in old money) and setting some short beats in the strong cross tides, with a broad reach out and a close fetch back to the finish at Hamble Point. At the start there were five XODs, three in Class 3, ten in Class 2 and three in Class 1.

The XODs and Class 3 had a shorter course, and Cockleshell (Class 2) did will to overhaul all the XODs and finish just before 1930. First XOD was Mischief, with Fantasy second and Satu hot on her heels.

Second and third across the line in Class 2 were Forethought, followed by Starfall.

Fearnought was first across the line in Class 2, for once ahead of M'enfin over the water, with Uproar third across the line. Further back, Dino Volante got the better of Mist this time round.

In Class 1, Jago finished first, three minutes ahead of La Nef, with Waywoh a wayward third, having problems with their spinny halyard. It's good to have Mike, Suzy and family back racing at the Club.

Last across the line just after 2030 was Lady Penelope. Maybe it was Parker's day off?? 509083 1200x
