Hamble Foxers - Winter Championships 4th /5th November 2017

The Hamble River Sailing Club hosted the Foxer Winter Championships with John Duff as Principal Race Officer. The Foxer fleet with their red, black and white sails are an iconic symbol of racing in the Hamble River. 22 Foxers took part in 12 race regatta over the weekend with no discards. Four time Extreme 40 World Champion, Peter Greenhalgh reeled off a string of six bullets to win the regatta, ahead of 2015 J/24 World Champion Ian Southworth, FAST40+ helmsman Dave Bartholomew was third, and top 'vixen' in fourth place was Sasha Kemp.

"The Foxer fleet is a lot of fun but also super competitive." commented Peter Greenhalgh. "Getting a good start is important but you can get massive wind shifts in the Hamble River, and the big tide needs to be judged, as well. The Foxer is not designed for speed, and there is little you can do to teak the boat, so it's all down to how well you sail, rather than the equipment."
