HRSC Cadets make it a clean sweep

Published 17:55 on 9 Jun 2013

What a great day the Cadets had at the Onboard Pico Open on Saturday 8th June as cadets from HRSC, SWAC, Warsash, Hillhead and Lymington all took to the water in the Onboard Pico Regatta.

The conditions were difficult – gusty on the course and no wind at the windward mark.

Congratulations to Callum Weston who came first in the single handers and brothers Robert and Andrew McFarlane who took first in the double handers making it a clean sweep for HRSC. A proud moment for all!

Thanks go to Jamie Wilkinson as Principle Race Officer and for organising the sailing.

Jamie was supported by Elaine, Jan and Susie Hamel on Retriever with Tim Murdoch mark laying, whilst other cadet parents drove support boats and helped on the shore.

A special mention for Kieran James for all his help getting boats and marks ready on Friday and to Rob Winn for sorting boats, organising the taxi and driving a safety boat on Saturday who are both members of the cadet section and Rob also represents the Cadets on the HRSC Sailing Committee.

And not forgetting Georgie Vintner for all her help Friday and Saturday – thank you! We cannot operate without all your help.

Many thanks to you all.

Next race day is against Hillhead at Home on Saturday 29th June. All those interested in sailing please email Peggy on pegdorothy@gmail.com

We are defending the Onboard Trophy so we need teams in both the single handers and the double handers. The event is sailed in Pico’s in the River and you should be RYA stage 3 or above. There could be places for some of the younger cadets as it is a great event to learn racing skills.
